Martin Contracting Services Limited were successful in their tender submission to install a raised boardwalk structure and viewing platform within Sixmilewater Park Pond, Ballyclare, on behalf of Newtownabbey Borough Council.
Enabling works; structural steel; reinforced concrete and bespoke formwork; supply FSC hardwood handrails and non-slip decking. All works were completed in a live park setting where the interface with the general public was managed in a detailed Construction Phase Plan.
Working closely with the design team at McCutcheon and Wilkinson, the design incorporated 9 nr reinforced concrete piers founded on 1.8m and 2.1m diameter precast concrete manhole rings,
Works included installation of over 7 tons of structural steel support beams and cross braces. This structure was installed to support a raised timber boardwalk, utilising resin aggregate bonded, castellated decking boards to allow a non-slip walkway. Hardwood handrails and galvanized steel mesh panels completed the balustrading, to provide a safe yet aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sensitive construction.
