MARTIN were awarded this public sector contract to provide an amphitheatre to be used by the village to host outdoor performances. The works also included parking and footpath improvement works.
Works involved; site clearance; bulk excavation and ground re-profiling; drainage and utility alterations; supply and install curved retaining structure, with seating and steps; curved handrailing; bespoke circular paving; soft landscaping inclusive of wildflower meadow; provision of grasscrete to provide access to rear of adjacent property.
“I have to say, the job really is outstanding, built with Regal Stone™ and the new ShortCut™ cap. There are some very carefully constructed details on the job including a very attractive flight of steps and some odd angled corners which were needed to make a return from a curved wall into the steps – all very nicely done. One interesting feature of the job is that if you stand on the exact centre of the cross in the floor of the amphitheatre (and you have to be quite exact), the acoustics create a huge amplification of your voice. One step to the left or right and the effect disappears but in the very centre it is almost magical! If you are over in that area, I would strongly recommend a detour to see this project – I don’t remember seeing more interesting or beautiful projects than this”
