Following on from several high profile sculpture and public realm installations, MARTIN were appointed by a renowned Scottish Artist to install two of his commissioned pieces in the coastal town of Ballycastle.
The foundations were carefully constructed utilising templates provided by the foundry. On arrival, the sculptures, one of three swans taking flight, and one of several species of fish leaping from the harbour, where handled with extreme care to position them before the finishing touches were made by the artist. To complete the bespoke project, MARTIN were asked to put together a bespoke mosaic at the base of the sculptures, with the finishing touches placed by the local schoolchildren who hand selected cobbles from the adjacent beach and personally placed into the mortar.
As the story goes the Children of Lir are four children who are turned into swans by their jealous stepmother.
The children found sanctuary across from where the statue sits today, Rathlin Island where the swans returned to their human form.
