Working with WJM for the SEELB, MARTIN completed this small scale civils contract at Killowen Primary School, Lisburn involving widening the existing entrance road to form a new road layout including a roundabout and 23 new parking bays. By request of the SEELB additional new pathways were also constructed around the new layout to make the school more accessible from all sides.
The scheme comprised:
· Bulk excavation and ground re-profiling
· Imported stone and full road construction
· New drainage installation
· Kerbing and provision of footway
· Street-lighting alterations
· 2200m2 of flexible surfacing
· Thermoplastic lining
· Provision of ramped access
· Soft landscaping
To ensure the safety of school pupils and parents, and maintain access for the teachers the scheme was in two phases for either side of the road. To minimise the environmental impact of the scheme planings from the road were reused as granular fill and the new drainage layout incorporated the existing system, minimising disposal and construction costs. Using thermoplastic lining and incorporating existing access ramps adjacent to the road, the school was very pleased.
On a whole works were completed on program with minimal disruption to the school. “Thank you very much, you’ve done a great job and we’ve never had any complaints over the whole duration.” – Principal Fiona Douglas.
